The first question you might ask is, “How long have they been in business?” A proven track record generally shows their capacity to deliver your items undamaged and on time. How many precious mementos have they delivered over the years? No amount of insurance will ever replace any of those things your children created, the souvenirs from vacations from years past, or the pictures of your grandparents and great-grandparents.
Do They Have the Proper Licensing?
If you are moving from one state to another, the company you choose should be licensed by the United States Department of Transportation. You should always be sure to check that their license number is current which you can do by researching it in the US DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration database. If you are moving just inside your current state, then the company needs to be licensed by the state.
Always Be Sure the Company Is Insured
Never hire a moving company that cannot provide proof of insurance. You should also find out if your personal items will be insured through your homeowner’s insurance. If not, taking out extra insurance as a supplement may be something you should be looking into.
