By Aiden ArmstrongEvery roofing material manufacturer’s warranty is slightly different. While some are prorated, others aren’t, and some only cover materials, while others are more extensive. It’s important for homeowners to understand what’s covered by the warranty, and they should Visit the website to learn what they can do to keep from voiding it.
Poor Ventilation
A roof ventilation system pulls air in through vents on the lower portion of the roof, dispersing it throughout the attic area. Inadequate ventilation leads to excess moisture, and it allows heat to become trapped in the home’s attic. Excessive heat can cause premature shingle wear, and it’s important to keep the roof properly vented to avoid this.
Improper Installation
Roofing material manufacturers have very strict installation regulations and requirements. These can include things such as nail length, per-shingle nail numbers, and more. Because of stringent requirements, homeowners should work with roofers offering Roofing Solutions Indianapolis, IN, who are experienced in installing their chosen roof type.
Hot Roofs
Hot roofs often lack ventilation because the sheathing is coated with spray insulation. This causes the shingles’ temperature to increase, resulting in decreased lifespans and faded colors. Check with the material manufacturer to ensure the installation won’t void the warranty, and check with the municipality to determine its regulations on this type of roofing.
Satellite Dishes and Antennas
Antennas and satellite dish installation can affect a home’s roofing warranty. While requirements vary by manufacturer, most will find that the warranty won’t be completely voided. Rather, the portion of the warranty covering leaks may be nullified.
Pressure Washing
Rooftop moss may damage the roof over time because it traps moisture, causing premature wear, and encourages cracking. To rid the roof of moss, some choose pressure washing as a solution. However, vigorous pressure washing can void a roof’s warranty because shingles cannot withstand the force of pressurized water.
Recovering an Existing Roof
Installing new roofing over the old layer can shorten or void a warranty for two reasons. The additional shingle layer will shed heat slowly, shortening its lifespan. The new shingles may also stick to the layer underneath, cause uneven wear and bulge. It’s vital to hire a roofer like Business Name, the provider of Roofing Solutions Indianapolis, IN, who can install a roof that’s attractive and will last beyond the warranty period.
