The Process Involved During Pool Resurfacing In Nassau County NY

Swimming Pools By Aiden Armstrong 2 min read

A pool should be a relaxing space that provides relief from hot summer temperatures, but if it is in poor shape, it can be an eyesore and make a person want to run away screaming rather than jump in. When the surface of a pool has degraded to the point where it can cause injury and is hard to clean, it is time to consider Resurfacing in Nassau County NY, as it can restore the beauty of a pool in as little as a few days. Here is a quick look at what is involved, and why it is a project best left to a professional.

Surface Preparation

The first step is to prepare the surface of the pool by draining it and removing any loose material that may be present. The contractor will also fill in any cracks that may have formed and smooth out any divots. The surface will then be sanded so that the fiberglass coating will be able to adhere to the surface of the pool without a fear of it cracking or chipping in the future.

Fiberglass Coating

The contractor will spray a liquid fiberglass coating over the interior of the pool, usually via an air powered sprayer. It is advised to apply at least three coats of fiberglass to make sure that the pool is watertight and will not be susceptible to damage for several years. Once the fiberglass has been applied, they will then sand it so that the surface is rough, which allows the top coat to adhere correctly.

Top Coat Installation

The last step is to install the top coat over the fiberglass lining material. There is a vast selection of colors available, so a homeowner can choose a product that matches their taste. After the top coat has been applied, be sure to let it dry for a minimum of 48 hours before refilling the pool and adding chemicals.
