By Aiden ArmstrongPreparing your AC unit before the harsh summer temperature peaks is a great way to avoid breakdowns and reduce energy costs. You can do some of these yourself or hire an AC company in Charleston to prepare your unit for hot summer days.
Clean or Replace Your Air Filters
Air filters are your system’s first defense against dust and debris, which can clog up your system and cause poor performance. Regularly cleaning or replacing your air filter is a simple yet crucial step that not only improves your AC’s performance but also helps lower your energy bills significantly, as your unit won’t have to work through the debris to receive air.
Check Your Unit’s Thermostat and Batteries
Your thermostat is the command center of your AC unit. If it’s not in working order, your AC will also have difficulty working efficiently. Ensuring your thermostat is working great and adjusting your settings to cool your home, not heat, is essential. Regularly replacing your thermostat’s batteries is also a small yet significant step to ensure it continues working, maintaining your AC’s performance.
Inspect Your Outdoor Unit
Remove any debris from around the outside of your outdoor AC unit. We also recommend contacting an AC company in Charleston to have your unit professionally cleaned. This maintenance will help your unit function at its best, but it isn’t something we recommend you do yourself. A professional will know how to clean your unit without damaging it.
Turn It On
Lastly, you want to ensure your unit is working, so go ahead and lower the temperature on your thermostat so your unit turns on. If there are any difficulties, you’ll have time before the scorching summer to arrange an air conditioning repair in Charleston, SC.
