The Advantages of Choosing Lambswool Applicators for Staining Projects

The average do-it-yourselfer may not understand all the benefits of using specific products for various projects. For the application of a stain to any type of wood surface, the choice of lambswool applicators is highly recommended over other options.

Is Lambswool Really Lambs Wool?

In some products, the term is not necessarily a direct indication of the material used. In the case of lambswool applicators, the name is actually correct. These types of stain applicators are made from wool collected from very young sheep. The result is a fine textured, highly absorbent cover to the applicator.

This allows stain, which is very much like water, to absorb into the surface of the applicator and to evenly coat the wood surface. The same type of uniform absorption and distribution of stain is not as easy with synthetic materials used in the manufacturing of standard paint rollers and applicators.

Additionally, the high level of absorption of the lambswool prevents excessive dripping of the stain during application. This ensures a uniform application on the surface without areas of heavier and lighter staining.

Options to Consider

When it comes to lambswool applicators, there are several different options to consider. For larger, flat surface areas, a lambswool pad and block applicator is a top option. By evenly absorbing the stain and with the consistent pressure and movement of the block, a very even stain distribution is easy to maintain. Small or large blocks are available for use on hardwood floors or on smaller applications.

For unique surfaces or where there are multiple edges and angles, a lambswool mitt is a great addition to any project. These mitts allow the professional or the do-it-yourselfer to cover all surfaces, including chair rails, stair posts and spindles and other types of decorative wood elements.
