During an FUT procedure, the grafts are harvested by taking a small “strip” from the back of the scalp. The area where the strip was taken from is closed with stitches or staples, and the strip is dissected down into the individual follicles or follicular units – which will be transplanted to the front individually – under large microscopes. During the FUE procedure, small tools are used to cut around and individually remove the follicular units “one-by-one” from the back.
