By Aiden ArmstrongThe dental implant process isn’t easy, and it requires a dentist who has skill and experience to ensure that it is done correctly. One clinic may have an oral surgeon do the implantation while the dentist diagnoses you and coordinates all the processes. Other clinics may have one person do the whole thing, all within the same office. Residents in Chicago should ensure that they choose a dentist who is also an oral surgeon or a clinic that has both within the same clinic.
Implants are a significant investment in your time and money. Therefore, it makes sense that you choose someone you can trust. While implant placement isn’t considered a specialty, you can still ask the right questions and find someone who knows what they’re doing.
Training/Experience
The first step is to ask how they have been trained for dental implants. During this session, you may also want to ask if they perform the entire procedure or if multiple dentists are involved. If there are various dentists involved in the process, make sure you ask each one what their training includes. You should also ask them how many implants they fit each year, giving you a better idea of how qualified they are. For example, the dentist who performs implantation once a month may be more suitable than the one who only does it a few times a year.
Timing
While you shouldn’t base the decision on which professional to choose solely based on how long it takes to do the procedure, some dentists offer same-day implants, which reduces recovery time and how many appointments you require.
