By Aiden ArmstrongIt’s estimated that more than 50,000 house fires occur each year due to electrical malfunctions. If someone wants to protect their home, they need to do so by checking the important electrical components, such as the breaker panel and fuse box. It is also a good idea to contact the Electric Company in Keizer OR for help if any of the following issues are seen.
Flickering or Dimming Lights
Since light fixtures only require a small amount of power, flickering or dimming isn’t typically an issue with the actual fixture. In most cases, the issue is going to lie with the other energy hogs in the home, such as space heaters or major appliances that have been wired to the same circuit. Appliances that are used to cool or heat a space usually draw quite a bit of power. This means that dimming may be the result of the washing machine drawing current to heat the water. It’s a good idea to contact the Electric Company in Keizer OR for more information.
Strange Smells
When new appliances are installed, they may produce a strange odor the first few times they are powered up. However, if a homeowner begins to detect a strange odor coming from an outlet, they should turn it off and unplug anything that is connected. Also, don’t use it again until an electrician has inspected it. If the fuse box or the breaker panel has a strange odor, then it is a good idea to hire an electrician to check things out.
Sparking
This is a sign that a homeowner should never ignore. How it is dealt with is dependent on where it’s coming from. If the fuse box or breaker box is sparking, an electrician needs to handle the issue. However, if there is a sparking appliance, it may mean that the fixture has been damaged.
