3 Must Haves When Ordering New Garage Flooring

No other floor in a home takes as much as abuse as the one located in a garage. Heavy vehicles can cause the flooring to break up and create large and unsightly cracks. Chemicals and other liquids that spill onto the floor can create slippery surfaces and make the flooring irreparable. Whether building a new home or remodeling an existing structure, make sure to consider all of the options available that can create a safe and long lasting floor in any garage. Here are a few items that should be considered before making an investment in any type of flooring for a garage environment. Weight LimitsThe weight of a vehicle and other heavy machinery will cause a floor to crack and break up. Before making a purchase, research any weight limits the Garage Flooring may have to determine if it will be able to sustain the load of any items that will be stored. This will prevent future breakup and ensure a flooring product that is designed to last for years without worry.

Chemical ResistanceMost people store chemicals in the garage of a home and use the space to work on lawnmowers and other equipment. This can cause chemicals and oils to drip or spill onto the surface of the floor, and a product that is not designed to withstand these items can start to dissolve and wear. Ask the flooring company about any tests that have been done to ensure a surface that will be able to stand up against whatever may be thrown its way. Ease of CleaningFor Garage Flooring to function as needed, it must be easy to clean. Most can be swept to remove dry debris, and then mopped with a mild solution of soap and warm water. Make sure the product doesn’t require a special type of cleaning agent, as this can be expensive and a hassle. It is also a good idea to have the flooring company provide a demonstration of the cleaning process in their showroom for future reference. With the right flooring, a garage can be the perfect place to store large items and work on machinery.
