Sunlight Readable LCD is a simple answer for any monitors, work stations or any other displays that are exposed to excessive light, sun or other bright light sources. You may be wondering how they “work”. The answer is actually quite simple once you get passed all the engineering jargon. These types of displays have both reflective and transmissivity properties. These types of displays use a back light that has transmissivity properties in darker conditions and uses the reflective properties when the external light is great. Of course there are more technical details that explain how these displays work but the basics are the aforementioned.
Basically the sunlight readable LCD is engineered to make the most of all lighting situations. While they are primarily used for outdoor applications they are certainly not limited to outdoor applications.
Caring for Your Sunlight Readable LCD Display
It may sound counterintuitive to say that you should not keep your LCD display in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Of course this type of display is made for outdoor use in the sunlight but extended exposure to direct sunlight can cause damage to the thermal properties and damage the screen. For short periods of time it is fine but you should not leave the display in direct sunlight for extended periods. The heat can cause damage and it is important to recognize this.
You can care for your sunlight readable LCD display the way you would any other display. Wipe with a soft cloth for cleaning. Store in a cool dry place when storing and avoid excessive temperatures on both ends of the spectrum and your display will be fine.
Other Things You Should Know
There are a couple of other things you should know about a sunlight readable LCD:
- They are not waterproof unless so designated
- They do consume more energy than traditional displays
- They can be mounted to a full range of systems
- They are more expensive than traditional displays
- They can increase productivity and information sharing
Assume that the display is not waterproof unless it specifically states it is. Expect shorter battery life because the display uses more power. You will pay more but it is worth the additional investment. Being able to actually read a display in any conditions is an invaluable tool for any industry when it comes to productivity and information sharing.
